D - for dumb humor - Wedding Crashers Reviews

I am simply let down everytime I get talked into going to an american made comedy. Who's rating these comedy movies... post pubescent boys and girls? I guess if you think bare breasted women, stupid cliches' and just plain dumb writing is funny... more power to you. I'll stick to the foreign comedies, until Hollywood can produce something more funny than this type of garbage.

The 60's high school musical - Hairspray Reviews

"Hairspary" was one of the best musicals ever! John Travolta was hillarous, laughing everytime he talked! Zac Efron and Queen Latifah did a outstanding job! Love the movie 5/5!

Hairspray sprays greatness. - Hairspray Reviews

i thought this movie was amazing. i love how they edited the ending to make seaweeds sister win ms. teenage hairspray. i thought john travolta in drag would be stupid, but it turned out to be one of the stronger things in the movie. zac efron as link was a good idea. he's a good singer and a good actor, too. he was little pathetic in "without love" though. haha. i thought elijah kelly was the best singer out of the entire cast. "run and tell that" was the best vocally performed song of the entire movie. queen latifah did an all right job at motomouth. she wasnt quite fitting for the part though. amanda bynes did a good job as penny, too. she's not the best at singing, but shes a good actress. last but not least, nikki blonsky, as tracy turnblad. a m a z i n g. for her first film, she was superb. overall score - 100/100. this movie satisfied in every way. m,usic, acting, plot, visuals. the entire thing was entertaining. i smell oscars and golden globes =)

Amazing! absolutley amazing! - Hairspray Reviews

Hairspray is originally an outstanding movie and Broadway production. But this remake is definatley one of the best. The cast was picked great, and the movie had me practically jumping out of my seat in beat. Even the whole theatre got up and started to dance! I immediatley bought the soundtrack after i saw the movie. Music was so catchy as the original, Direction was very clear, the acting was outstanding, especially with John Travolta as Edna! Hilarious. The whole cast was a great pick. Taking the classic story and making it another masterpiece, it doesn't get any better than that.

Fun! fun! fun! - Hairspray Reviews

Saw the play on Broadway, wasn't overly impressed, but thought I'd give the movie a try. All I can say is WOW, I'm glad I did. I found it to be incredible fun. The talent in this film leaves you not knowing where to look fist. Casting was excellent. John Travolta in the final number reminded me of Eddie Murphy in Dreamgirls-the guy still has A LOT left in the tank, and even slips in his signature "Pulp Fiction" dance move. Nikki Bolnsky is an incredible natural, kind of like Jennifer Hudson, not to be believed. But then there's Michele Pfiffer-in a league of her own-stills every scene she's in, even as the villaness. I felt the screen time of the character of Motormouth Mabel to be a tad under the talents of the beautiful Q. Latifah but couldn't think of anyone else to play the role to do it justice. The Nickelodeon graduates round out the cast and do an incredible job. Can you tell I liked this movie? AMAZING-don't miss it.

Awesome and fantastic - Hairspray Reviews

It is a funfilling movie that has alot of happiness and some sadness. It is a good movie for the family and they will love it. The music is good and you'll like Zac Efron's acting along with the others. So go see it with the family it's playing in theaters everywhere!

I had no idea - Hairspray Reviews

Myself and everyone I have talked to had no idea that this was about racial equality. I expected a movie with a Grease type feel. That said, it was well acted, and the singing was very good. John Travolta was a little odd to take, I have to say I didn't really care for his role. Maybe someone else, but I don't know who, I would have liked better. I did not care for Amanda Bines in this role. She played this like her pony tailed character on her Amanda show from Nickeloden. I was glad I saw the movie, but its not good enough to see it twice.

A really great and fun film - Hairspray Reviews

Hairspray is a really great movie. The cast was amazing and the music was pumping. This movie made me want to get out of my seat and start dancing. It was fun and exciting. All of the cast did an amazing job. This movie should get lots of awards. I recommend that you see this movie. You won't be wasting your money and you will to see it again and again.HairSpray go and see it now! I gave it 4 stars!

Hairspray is funny - Hairspray Reviews

I went to see a free promo of the movie. my initial thought was that is wasnt going to be that great and i wasnt going to pay to see it. However the promo was free. And i loved the movie it was hilarios and entertaining i would tottaly recomend it to anyone. However my boyfriend didnt like it. He kept saying not another song... so its not a good date movie go with your friends!!

Waterdowned frm the original - Hairspray Reviews

i must admit when i head they were doing a remake of Hairspray i was.."kinda" intrigued but that was all put to a hault after sitting through this extrmely horrible remake....i mean this one doest come anywhere close to comparing to the classic 80's flick with the all time funny Ricki Lake and Divine. all these ppl who think its "AWESOME" AND "THE BEST MOVIE" have clearly never seen the original version..its like with all other remakes these younger ppl think its a brand new movie..but others like myself know they should STOP remaking all of our oldies. hollywood writers need to start actually THINKING and bring us some new material for change.

What is wrong with you people! - Hairspray Reviews

for all you people giving this show a bad grade and did not even watch it....you suck! hairspray was fun and nothing but good! the commercial clips gives the movie no justice! this movie was better than grease and entertaining from the first note! i'm sure this movie was a risk for john travolta, but man, it paid off!!! WATCH IT!!!

Different than other versions, which were great... - Hairspray Reviews

I think this movie is very different than a John Waters film. I love his stuff..but this movie isn't about what he tries to do. The fact that his basic story inspired a musical that could eventually inspire a movie musical that is almost as inoocent and fun as "Singin' in The Rain" is a marvel. And I plan to see it again, and again.

John travolta and zack efron (two favorites) - Hairspray Reviews

I took my 11 year old daughter to see Hairspray this afternoon. What a great movie! There aren't many out there to see with your kids. The message that everyone is different and can be accepted is a good inspiration for today's youth. John Travolta is always my favorite (even as a woman). Of course, Zack Efron is a favorite among all the young girls. GO SEE THIS MOVIE!

The cast was amazing! - Hairspray Reviews

This new modern made version of Hairspray was simply infectios. I left the theater feeling satisfied as I tapped my foot singing "You Can't Stop the Beat"! I think the thing that made this movie what it was though was the hand-picked and well thought out cast. Everyone was perfect...to a T. I enjoyed seeing familliar faces such as John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Amanda Bynes, and Zac Efron as well as the exciting new talents of Nicky Blonsky and Elijah Kelley. Both new faces will stick in my mind becasue their performances were just amazing and and full of emotion. I enjoyed this musical classic not only because of the "corny" comedy but because of the emotional aspect of the segregation issues. I have to say that even though the musical was uplifting and unforgettable the most touching song in my book was the one during the segregation march to the station. It really hit home, and this movie got the message through clear as crystal. It made me happy, sad, excited, scared, and most of all in love with the 60's all over again.

Nothing short of delightful - Hairspray Reviews

If you are a fan of the stage adaptation of "Hairspray," you will not be disappointed with this film. It stays true to the original Broadway musical, while at the same time being very different. This up-beat storyline has evolved so much since the 1988 version, and those who are unfamiliar with the story will be pleasantly suprised. Overweight Tracy Turnblad becomes a regular on a local dance show, which only has one day of every month set aside for colored people. This movie is about the obstacles she faces in a struggle to try to integrate, so that both whites and people of color can dance together. All of this takes place while maintaining her hair-do and winning over the man of her dreams. There are many outstanding performances in the film, particularly by Michelle Pfeiffer, Elijah Kelley, Amanda Bynes, and newcomer Nikki Blonsky. Other cast members include Queen Latifah, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron, Christopher Walken, and Allison Janney. John Travolta plays the role of Edna Turnblad, Tracy's mother and and overweight laundress. Although his performance was highly anticipated, I found it to be quite bland. After this film, you will find yourself full of joy. Not to mention its pleasant music and well-done dance numbers, this film is filled with humor and a lot of heart.

Awesome - Hairspray Reviews

Awesome! - Hairspray Reviews

Loved every minute of the movie! Everything was an A+ for me! I loved the acting and the music! I loved the special appearance by ricki lake--it was only fitting!

This movie is so hiliarious! - Hairspray Reviews

I enjoyed this movie so much. The dancing was great and so was the music. I thought John travolta's performance could be considered Oscar worthy. Newcomer Nikki Blonskiy was great.

Great family movie - Hairspray Reviews

I love it, my family loved it, and this is the type of movie I could go see over and over, because of the feel good feeling after I left. Just go to show you in all walks of life there are dreams still coming true.

Wonderful movie! - Hairspray Reviews

I loved this movie. I saw the musical on broadway in NY and the movie was jsut as good. The acting is wonderful and John Travolta is amazing. I highly reccomend it for all women and I actually think men will like it too.

'hairspray' sprays this summer with fun!!!!! - Hairspray Reviews

I have never seen a better performed musical that 'Hairspray'!! The first time I heard about 'Hairspray' was when the show first started on Broadway! I was like "Big Deal, a stupid musical about hairspray"(which it has nothing really to do with except the hair!) Little did I know was that it would be the best musical performance I would ever see. Yes I will admit that I was obsessed with Grease,The Wizard of Oz, Annie, Cats, Rent, and High School Musical through my childhood years through my teenage years, but who didn't enjoy them?? When I watched those movies I was thrilled with excitement, and watched them over and over again. Eventually I got tired of the songs and then the movie and then the cds and dvds just sat on my shelf. Hairspray changed that for me. I never even saw the broadway performance, but when I first listen to the Broadway Recording I knew this movie would be a hit. Yes there was a movie made back in the 80's but they didn't have music like this one did! From the moment Tracy(Nikki Blonsky) woke up from her bed in Baltimore and opened her mouth to sing I knew that I was going to be pleased. The way the movie was directed and choreographed was AMAZING!! Thank you so much Nikki Blonsky, John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Queen Latifah,Christopher Walken, Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes, Elijah Kelly, James Marsden, and Brittany Snow for making this movie the best that it could possibly be. I really hope to see some awards for this movie really soon!!!! 'Hairspray' really did spray some fun into my summer this year!

Regurgitation in hollywood - Hairspray Reviews

See the original. The better, by far, of the 2. I'm so tired of this wave of regurgitation. Can't someone come up with a new story? Divine is turning in her grave...John Travolta's role is fun, but Divine's portrayal of Edna was truly divine. I hope John Waters is going to make a new set of films with the money he must have gotten from selling this story. Now, if someone were brave enough to do Pink Flamingos on Broadway and then regurgitate it back to us, I'd pay double to see John Travolta eat poodle poop.

More need to speak up - Hairspray Reviews

I am a Chrisitian, too, who is not a mean, bigoted or stupid person. Why is it acceptable to portray us that way in movies and TV. This movie has good messages in it but hidden (or not so hidden) is the Christain bashing so politically correct these days. God forgive us...

Just wonderful - Hairspray Reviews

Sometimes a movie comes out that just makes you feel good - this is it! Singing, dancing, a great story and an awesome cast makes this 1 a keeper!! We saw this on Broadway last year and it was like we were there again!! John Travolta and Queen Latifah were amazing. Michelle Pheiffer, you just wanted to hate her! Nikki Blonsky's performance definitely gave Ricki Lake's performance a run for her money!! Nikki was Tracy Turnblad!! They could not have gotten a better person for the part. You could just feel her passion!!

Laughing never hurt my stomach so much - Hairspray Reviews

In the beginning, I thought "Oh, great, it's a full-on musical" after hearing what seemed like an endless song by newcomer Nikki Blonsky. But then, I began to laugh at the little jokes in the song, and the big jokes became even funnier. Most of my laughter was spent on the John Travolta-turned-female quips. Just knowing that there was a man inside that nearly female looking body cracked me up on its own. But maybe I'm just easily pleased. The music was fantastic, even though a lot of them sounded alike. Allison Janney was particularly funny, even in her short roles. Hairspray was a very stereotypical film, but I am all for stereotypical films. They're understandable because they're stereotypes, things that we know are the norm for people. Rated PG, I think 10 and up is a suitable age. Even at that age I don't know if they would understand some of the things that brought Hairspray the PG rating, which is good I guess. Amanda Bynes, being one of my favorite actresses, had her funny parts. I just had to mention her name somewhere. =) Nikki Blonsky was excellent, but for some reason I can't imagine her doing well in any other films. It was like Hairspray was made for her. Hairspray is definitely a movie that I can watch over and over.

Film student review - Hairspray Reviews

Usually when I go see a movie I become irretated by the slightest comment or whisper sized conversation that may emerge from any of the seats surrounding my own, but this time I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by an entire theater ready not only to enjoy themselves but to also envolve themselves into the movie they were about to see. With the clapping, whooping, and hollering that was going on around me I began to see that it was exactly the same way I felt about this great film, Hairspray. Hairspray is absolutely the most fun I've ever had at the movies. And while it may not be the original, since the original Hairspray debuted back in 1988 and the broadway musical short there after, it's defenitely a great hybrid. And while it may lack the beautiful camera movements and visuals of Chicago, it makes it up in sheer fun. This version is definetely less dark than John Water's 1988 version but for good reason; Adam Shankman, the film's director, by making his version more "bubble gum", has made this musical and film's apeal much broader, going beyond the traditional musical lover and has made it appealing to everyone old and young alike, thus making this film one that the entire family can enjoy. Watching this film took me back to the year 2005, when the only two believable on screen romances where between two cowboys on a certain montain and between a woman and an enourmous king ape in Brokeback Mountain and King Kong. I say this because we've all heard the hype over John Travolta's transformation into Edna, the overweight jolly mother of the film's heroine. Watching the film, I completely forgot that a man was playing the role of this sweet and motherly woman and the romance that comes through the screen with Edna and her husband, played by Christopher Walken, is not only believeable but envied. Goes to show what two great actors can achieve. Finally the film's star is Tracy played by newcomer Nikki Blonsky. Nikki's energy and love for the material is sensed everytime she gets to dance her little chubby heart out, a visual "Thank You For The Part" to the director and producers. This movie had me grinning like an idiot from beginning to end and by the end I was also clapping, hooping, and hollering. From "Good Morning Baltimore" to "You Can't Stop The Beat" I hope you have a great time at the theater watching this awesome movie, and if at some point you feel like clapping along or yelling out the occasional "YEAH!!!", do it, it'll only make it better.

Hairspray is tite!!! - Hairspray Reviews

I saw hairspray on Wed. And It was awesome! You didn't expect people like Amanda Bynes and Britney Snow can sing. It was so fun and all the actors did a great job

One to remember - Hairspray Reviews

hairspray was everything they said it was going to be. its a great musical, great acting, great story and just plain fun. if you're a fan of musicals it was the kind of film that made you get up off your seat and sing right along with it. travolta was of course a great fat lady. not only that, but it was cool seeing john and michelle appear in another musical other than grease and grease 2. SO CHECK IT OUT!!

You can't the beat!! - Hairspray Reviews

I JUST SAW HAIRSPRAY AND MAN IT WAS TRULY MAGIC. I AM A HUGE FAN OF THE PREVIOUS VERSION BUT THIS ONE IS BY FAR THE BEST. QUEEN LATIFAH, JOHN TRAVOLTA, CHRISTOPHER WALKEN AND AMANDA BYNES REALLY STOLE THE SHOW FOR ME AND THE NEWCOMER NICOLE REALLY WON ME OVER. I WAS SINGING AND LAUGHING AND REALLY FELT GREAT LEAVING THE THEATRE. EVERY CAST MEMBER REALLY SEEMED TO LOVE WORKING ON THIS FILM AND IT TRULY SHOWED. I'M GONNA GO SEE IT AGAIN!!

Divine...debbie harry...etc,... - Hairspray Reviews

Ah. come on.... DIVINE...DEBBIE HARRY...Pia Zidora.. NO way its better than the original! Not trying to slam THE REMAKE....BUT, really folks... This bubble gum remake... made to suit the normalcy of the hum drum movie making out now... is nothing more than a bore. RENT THE ORIGINAL IF YOU WANT A REAL MOVIE.. Oh, and really Travolta....YUK!

This hairspray will last and last... - Hairspray Reviews

Go see this movie. A good Hairspray should have lasting hold, and this movie will endure, and become a classic. It is everything a movie musical should be. Not all musicals translate to film, but Hairspray not only translates wonderfully, it transcends! I really didn't want to go, but I had some free preview tickets, and by 2 minutes into the movie, I was hooked! The subtle rhythm of the town, car horns and construction banging...Tracy Turnblad riding a garbage truck to school singing "Good Morning Baltimore", it was all put together perfectly. There is something for just about everybody to like in this movie. All the performances were exceptional, especially newcomer Nikki Blonsky and Queen Latifah. Christopher Walken was a delight. When Travolta first appeared on camera, I thought he was going to ruin it all, but as his character came out of her shell, he won me over! He played Edna with all his heart. His duet with Walken (You're Timeless to Me) was both hilarious and moving. The weakest link was Amanda Bynes, but she's so friggin cute, who cares! Her character was supposed to be a ditz anyway. This movie will keep you toe tapping and finger snapping! The songs are well done, with very catchy beats and clever lyrics. Sure, it's bubble gum, but it's GREAT bubble gum! The dialogue is priceless and hilarious, and the message of the movie is clear but never overwhelming. Some of the performances were so fabulous the movie audience was actually applauding as if they were at a concert! Half of the full-house crowd stayed through the credits just to applaud the actor credits and listen to the additional songs in the soundtrack. Go see this movie. One way or another you'll end up seeing it eventually somewhere, because this film will endure, on DVD, cable, etc, so you might as well see it in a nice big theater with a big screen and big sound and a big audience. You'll be glad you did, and this little movie about a big girl deserves a big audience!

Wow - Hairspray Reviews

i have never seen a better movie. this movie was really good and nothing but GREASE tops this. John Travolta, Zac Efron, Queen Latifah and others all together in this awesome movie.

You can't stop the beat! - Hairspray Reviews

To start off: I was really scared about this movie a year ago when I heard they cast John Travolta. I love John Travolta but I felt that he wasn't right for the role. To my suprise, he was great! Yeah, there probably was a better choice, but who doen't enjoy seeing John Travolta dressed up as a woman? This movie was a great experience. After seeing RENT and The Producers, this was definatley refreshing. I hope it brings back movie musicals. Story: I've always loved Hairspray. I don't think people should be comparing this movie to the original. They should be comparing it to the Broadway show. They are different. John Water's film was much more dark while the Broadway show was much brighter and more cheerful. Both are great in their own ways. My only regrets about the story was that I wish that they kept "The Big Dollhouse" and "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now." Acting: The acting was great. Nikki Blonsky was marvelous. I actually like her better in some of the songs than I did the original Tracy. Zac Effron was great... and I thought I was going to hate him after High School Musical. Christopher Walken is great in everything he does. I didn't know he could sing until now. Amanda Bynes should of turned up her voice a bit, but I recently figured out that the producers told her that Penny was "just finding her voice." Michelle Pfieffer was awesome and beautiful as always. I thought Queen Latifah wouldn't be powerful enough but she was great along with John Travolta. Wjoever played Seaweed has an amazing singing voice. Same with Amber... she was alittle underused though. Direction: The only thing that bothered me was the part that they blurred the school bell into another scene. I guess it just made me dizzy. Visuals: Costumes and dancing count as visuals, right? Well, if not... whatever. They were both great (I really need to find another word for great...) Overall: Awesome! I will definately be buying this when it comes out on DVD. Sorry this review was so long. I hope it was helpful. ;)

Look at the movie again!!!! - Hairspray Reviews

People, if you are comparing this to the John Waters film YOU WILL be dissappointed. This is solely based on the BROADWAY musical. The original was not a MUSICAL. It was a movie ABOUT certain topics and about music. No one sang in the original. If you dont know what you are talking about PLEASE leave the reviewing to the ones who do. As for John Travolting...as some put it, He played Edna because a MAN has always played her part from the beginning. I think he did a great Job. who did you want to see in it as Edna? Tony Soprano? Fogetaboudit!!! If you like Musicals definately see it, it's wonderful. If you are looking for a comedy like the John Waters Film save your money cause you will be dissappointed.

Mmmmmazing! - Hairspray Reviews

i think this a huge step up from the original movie. a lot of up and coming actors (nikki blonsky, amanda bynes, zac efron) really make names for themselves in this film. the music, the acting, the story all had its' own originality even though it was a remake. and best of all, john travolta in drag steals the show!

Do your research! - Hairspray Reviews

I have not seen the movie yet, but I have been waiting for 2 years for this to come out! My comment is to those people who 1. Believe this is a remake 2. Say Waters sold out 3. That this is white man (bigot) movie. 1. This is NOT a remake. Before you start claiming that you know something, you should do some research. The 1988 movie was an original idea. The movie was such a hit, that the idea was to make it in to a broadway hit. And it has been for many years and will be for many to come. I was able to see it on its travelling tour. Being a fan of the movie, I knew I would love the musical. The musical is better than the movie. Then from this hit, a screenwriter decided to take the best of the two and combine it to make a screen version OF THE MUSICAL! This is not a remake of the original movie. 2. John Waters did not sell out. He has been on board with this project from the beginning. 3. This is not a racist movie. It is a historical piece. No matter how much we hate it, this stuff happened. This is about how being different can be a good thing. The title character, Tracy, is an overweight dancer on a tv show and wants it to be integrated. She wants positive change. So you should be excited that this character is wanting change and impacting all people, of all colors and sizes. In closing, please don't be quick to judge something that you do not know anything about! That is what this movie is all about!!!

~as good as it gets!! =] - Hairspray Reviews

That was a great and very enjoyable movie to watch! I'm glad my $10.00 didn't go to waste. Honestly, I must admit that I was a bit worried about what the outcome of this movie was going to be like, but all my doubts are gone now because this movie was spectacular! You can really connect with the character even if you don't weigh 300 pounds. The idea is that anything is possible, and this girl proves that point right! She can be looked up to and admired for following through with her dream even after complications. Now, about the acting. Well, Zac Efron was in it, so it HAD to be great! Did anybody else notice that all the best actors were in this movie? Not to mention, all my favorites! How could you go wrong with Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes, Brittany Snow, John Travolta, and others?? I mean, c'mon, you're talking about some of the best young actors ever! (Well..maybe not SO young..at least for Travolta.) But either way you look at it, this movie was awesome, and I really think everyone should go watch it. It has a lot of "funny" in it, but it's also really true, which is what really grasps you. So for all you people who disagree, you probably weren't paying attention to the movie. You just went to sit there and talk with your friends or do some other distracting thing. I mean, if you don't like movies like this, then why do you go? Now, if you haven't seen it, you better go watch it because this may be the next big thing!! Love, ~*S*~ =]

"hairspray" a toe-tapping treat - Hairspray Reviews

If you are not infected with the joy of "Hairspray" than there isn't a movie musical that can make you smile. The cast is great - from newcomer Nikki Blonsky, who really carries the story, to an incredibly well-cast group of superb actors playing their parts with energy and pizzazz. The music is great, the dancing better and the message is a perfect one for both young and old. To me, Christopher Walken and Queen Latifah, were the best of a great ensemble. John Travolta made the part of Edna his own and convinced the audience he was a woman, not a man in drag. All in all, a whole lot of fun and better than "Dreamgirls". Go see it and cheer up your day.
